Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s online experience has seen improvements since launch, but it still has some kinks to iron out. Shortly after Smash Bros. Ultimate’s official launch back in early December , fans were quick to report trouble with the matchmaking in Quickplay and Elite Smash essentially the game’s online ranked modes.
Despite having preferred rule sets in place to make matches as close to competitive standard as possible, players were still actively being dropped into free-for-alls, team bouts, and those that had all manner of random settings. The 1. Post-update, I definitely get matched up with fights closer to my preferred rule set more often than not, and random matches are fewer and farther between. However, disconnects from online matches can still pose problems for players even when they aren’t the offender.

Commentary: Nintendo’s latest Smash Bros. From the moment the Nintendo Switch was first announced, fans knew it was coming: a new version of Super Smash Bros. It took about a year after the console’s launch for Nintendo to catch up to that expectation, and a few months more until it promised the next game in the series would be the most complete iteration of the fighting game ever made.
To drive the point home, Nintendo baked it into the game’s title: Super Smash Bros. This was supposed to be the best version of Smash Bros, the game that had everything fans wanted: every character who had ever appeared in the game; all of the most iconic stages and items; faster gameplay; better online support and more. If you glance at the game’s Metacritic score , it seems like it has met those expectations: fans and critics alike love Super Smash Bros.
But the honeymoon is starting to wind down. We’re starting to see flaws.

SSB4 – Keep stages the same in “For Glory”
Sakurai answered with a very lengthy response that can only be summarized in so many words. Many of his comments addressed the need to appeal to both casual and inexperienced gamers. In fact, we recreated all characters almost from scratch.
Even if Smash Ultimate’s matchmaking system were perfect, it’d still have to contend with the lag plaguing online gameplay. This isn’t a new.
Aug Posted by goldenyumyum. Here I come you fucking casuals! What this meant in my case, was that I could quickly get to grips with how a character functioned, learn some bread and butter combos, and get into some matches in under an hour. This is great, because it always feels nice to be able to jump into a game with such little time invested in technical mastery. So I go with Chel, being a shoto archetype think Ryu and Ken in SF , I felt she would be the most comfortable character for me to work with off the bat and at least possibly reach a lower intermediate level of play very quickly.

So a lot of things have come and passed since I last wrote, and although I wanted to cover them at the time, I feel as if many of those topics were best left discussed when they were more relevant.
In any case, one thing that has stuck out since the beginning of my venture into the Smash community has been the topic of defensive play, or rather, the overwhelming disdain for it. So the obvious question is, why do so many people dislike defensive play?
